Mother was born in Arkansas March 24, 1931. She grew up in their home at Jones's Creek, Scott county Arkansas. She was the eldest of three sisters…88 Ruth, Mary, and Mettie. All have now passed. Her father Walter Yancey had children from a previous marriage and had step siblings but all were out of the house prior to his marriage to Helen Yancey. Like a lot of folks, she and her first husband (John Hershel McLain) left Arkansas for Houston, Texas seeking work. They both held different jobs prior to Hershel getting on with DOW Chemical in Freeport. He drove back and forth every day for a good while. One daughter, Helen Jane Weathers, was born in 1952 while they lived in Houston. In 1955 the family moved to Lake Jackson and Ruth began her career with South Western Bell as an operator. She worked for them until retiring in ~1983 when she decided to give child care for her grandson…James McLain Weathers.
Ruth's is survived by one nephew John Mizerik (Liz) and their children Alec and Nicole of Sugarland. One niece Linda and her daughter Linda of Topeka Kansas.
She was proceeded in death by her first husband Hershel McLain. After a time she married Elvin Montier. They divorced and he has since passed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
According to her wishes, Ruth will be transported to Arkansas for interment next to husband Hershel McLain at the Hawkins cemetery.
