He never met a stranger and never missed a chance to show up for the people he loved. JohnPaul Hernandez was the kind of friend who would feed you if you were hungry, sit with you when you were hurting, and remind you of your worth when you struggled to see it yourself.
On February 17th, 2026, JP passed away far too soon. He leaves behind family and friends who are heartbroken by his absence but forever grateful for his presence in their lives.

JP loved fishing, hunting, good music, and long conversations that lasted for hours. Wherever he was, people gathered. There was always laughter, stories being told, and something cooking. Meals made from whatever ingredients he had on hand somehow turned out unforgettable. Cooking wasn't just something he enjoyed. It was how he cared for the people around him.

Those closest to him often spoke about how intelligent he was and how much potential he carried. He was thoughtful in ways that not everyone always saw, but those who knew him best never doubted. He was capable and full of promise. Even during seasons that were difficult, he remained someone people could call, someone who would answer, someone who would show up.

In the days following his passing, the outpouring of love and generosity has been overwhelming. It has been a powerful testament to the kind of person JP was and the impact he had on so many lives. His family is deeply grateful for every prayer, every message, and every act of kindness shown during this time.

JP was raised in church and carried with him a belief in God throughout his life. While none of us are without struggle, we serve a Savior who is rich in mercy and abundant in grace. His family rests in the hope of eternity and finds peace in trusting that JP is now free from the burdens of this world.
JP's memory will live on in the stories shared around tables, in early mornings spent casting a line, and in the quiet moments when someone chooses to show up for another, just as he always did.

JP is preceded in death by his older brother, Anthony James Trevino. There is comfort in picturing the two of them together again, brothers side by side.

He leaves behind his loving mother, Irma Hernandez Setzer; his brother, Steven Ray H. Kieborz; and his daughter, Jalynn Alyse Hernandez. He is also survived by his dad, Marvin Ray Setzer Jr.; his siblings, Breanna Curry and Jason, Keith Setzer and Kristin, Marvin ''Ti-Ray'' Setzer III and Trisha, and Kate Setzer; along with beloved family and countless friends whom he loved dearly.

Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Kieborz, Keith Setzer, Ti-Ray Setzer, Jonathan Breazeale, Edward Bess, and Timothy Wayne.
