Steven Thomas Shadden, a loving and devoted husband, dad, pops, uncle, friend and mentor, passed away on April 4, 2026.
Steve was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, in 1943. In 1948, he moved with his parents to Freeport, Texas. There he made Freeport his home and became a 1961 graduate of Brazosport High School.
In 1975, Steve founded Shadden Automotive Machine Shop, beginning what would become a 50-year legacy. Through the business, he was known for his dedication, precision, and an unwavering commitment to quality. Customers trusted him not only for his skill, but for his honesty and pride in a job well done.
More than a business owner, Steve was a mentor and teacher. Over the decades, he generously shared his knowledge with countless young machinists and automotive enthusiasts. His shop was more than a workplace - it was a place of learning, storytelling, and camaraderie.
Steve had a lifelong passion for classic cars and racing hot rods. Engines were not just mechanical components to him; they were sources of exhilaration. He especially loved his 1961 red Corvette, a prized possession.
After five decades in business, Steve retired in 2025 due to health issues. He will be remembered for his steady hands, generous heart, and the unmistakable sound of a finely tuned engine that he helped bring to life.
He is survived his wife, Pat Shadden; daughter, Kemberlee Lovell; grandson, Cody Lovell; grandchildren - Ellie, Carson & Coy Lovell; nieces - Sarah Shadden Halawein & Jerri Lee Elizabeth Shadden; Stepdaughter - Lisa Duke (Todd); Stepson - Larry Flippo (Karen); Step grandsons - Dylan Duke (Casey) and Dalton Duke (Dennis); Step granddaughters - Kamryn Nash (Wesley) and Kara Vahle (Sean)
He is preceded in death by his parents - O. L. & Betty Shadden; brother - Jerry Lee Shadden; nephew - Jerry Lee Shadden II (Doc)
Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Kelly with Hopestone Choice Hospice and the staff at Oak Village Nursing Home for the caring hands that took care of Steve.
