Vidman (Vick) Vickers

Mr. Vickers was born on September 28, 1918 in Clark County, Mississippi, and passed away on July 20, 2012 in Jacksonville, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Bruce and Jettie Vickers; wife, Doris Vickers of 64 years; son Gary Vickers; along with siblings, 2 brothers and 6 sisters.

He is survived by daughter, Vicki Langham and husband Mark of Jacksonville, Texas; Grandsons, Jason Henderson of Bullard, Texas; Brad Vickers and wife Misty of San Antonio, Texas; Granddaughters, Carrie Parsley and husband Jeff of Troup, Texas and Bryn Vickers of Los Angeles, California; Great-Grandchildren; Jordan Parsley, Emorie Parsley, Cooper Parsley, Will Vickers, Brooke Vickers, Nicole Henderson and his loving pet Chihuahua "Willie".

He worked for years in a Textile Mill in Mississippi. In 1939 he moved to Port Arthur, Texas and joined the Merchant Marines. During World War II the Merchant Marines became the U.S. Maritime Service.
In 1945 he then went to work for the Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas. In 1953 he moved his family to Lake Jackson, Texas and became a dealer in a new Texaco Service Station . In 1964 he became the consignee for Mobile Oil Corp. in the Brazosport area. After retiring in 1975, he was active in city government and other civic organizations. He served as representative on the Brazosport Area Planning Commission and Lake Jackson Planning and Zoning Commission. He served 5 years on the Lake Jackson City Council, 10 years as Mayor of Lake Jackson and 3 years as President of the Brazosport Tourist Council. He also served 15 years on the Board of the American Savings & Loan Association and founded & served 3 years as President on the Board of the Lake Jackson Historical Association.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson.

Family will hold a private burial at a later date.

I remember Mr. Vickers so well, from the Texaco Station he owned in Lake Jackson. He was always friendly and kind to his many customers, and made each one feel they were his only customer. He will always remain apart of my wonderful memories of Lake Jackson. May God walk with you through your grief.
