Ken was born in San Antonio, Texas as the first child of Robert Eugene and Bernice Waller Burnside. He attended several different schools in San Antonio, graduating in 1970 from Edison High School where he played clarinet in the Golden Bear Band. He was active at Richmond Avenue Baptist Church and still maintained contact with his youth group friends via email.

A year after graduation, Ken enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Louisiana, Illinois, Texas and Germany. After serving over 7 years and reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant, he returned home and earned a degree in finance from the University of Texas at San Antonio. An avid reader throughout his life, Ken left behind his own extensive library and his ever present Kindle. His career was always associated with real estate working as a banker in Midland, Brownsville and Victoria, then as a real estate appraiser, and finally as a mortgage loan specialist for the Department of Veteran Affairs in Houston/

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Everett Burnside; children Jennifer (David) Cullen of Cedar Park, TX, Lindsay (Peter) Voorheis of Missouri City, TX and Bradley (fiancee Katie Bledsoe) Burnside of College Station, TX; brother Michael (Kathy) Burnside of College Station, TX; grandchildren Ryan Voorheis and Lorelai Cullen; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ken will be remembered for his keen mind, sharp wit and ready smile. He was always learning, enjoyed sharing and matching wits with friends and family. So many memories, especially of laughter and conversations with Ken. He left us a wonderful legacy in Jennifer, Lindsay and Brad and the grandchildren.
