Dear Evelyn: While I don't know if you will remember me or not, my mother was Mary Ray Hyde and you used to do both our hair. We lived on 7th Street in Freeport. I had sisters, Margaret and Danita. All have passed - I lost my mother in 2003. I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I will be thinking of you. Paula Ray McCall P.S. I graduated high school with Glenda Smithwick.

It is always sad to read about the loss of someone in death. Even though I didn't know Mr Sassin, I do know the pain of losing a loved one in death, and so I wanted to extend my sympathy. It is my wish that you find strength of family and in the warm embrace of caring friends as you endure this most difficult time. Please reflect also on the hope from the Bible as we find at Revelation 21:4 of no more death. As well as Jesus promise to awaken those asleep in death. [John 5:28,29]

My entire family loved Mr. and Mrs. Sassin. He loved his customers and the Freeport community. You could see their love for each other. We are at such a loss since their passing, but received such a gift in their lives. May peace and comfort be with the Sassin family.

I remember Mr. Sassin when he first arrived in Freeport and started to work alongside Mr. Smithwick in the barber shop on Broad Street next door to the 20th Century Pool Hall. I remember when he set up his own shop on W. Park next to Coldwater's and Griff's and I continued to be one of his many loyal customers for many years. Mr. Sassin was a wonderful man with a great work ethic and truly dedicated to Freeport. He will be missed.
