Emmitt Jeanne Teinert (88) mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012, with her family by her side.
She was born on January 19, 1924 to Sarah Elizabeth and Roland Lee Pike
on the family farm in Shamrock, Texas. Some of her fondest memories were
of her childhood there.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Herbert Teinert. They met
when she was in high school in Divine, Texas and married shortly after her
graduation. They lived in several towns in south Texas and moved to Freeport in 1946.

Jeanne worked at Dow Chemical for 24.5 years retiring in 1985. She was a member of the National Secretaries Association, earning a Certified Professional Secretary rating and was named Secretary of the Year in 1978.

Her passion for community service was continuous throughout her life; from a volunteer Pink Lady at the Dow Hospital to PTA, Little League and Boy Scouts. Her main emphasis for the later years of her life was the City of Surfside and Surfside Beach. She was a member and organizer of the Save Our Beach Association, which was responsible for establishing the pedestrian beach and for the Dunes Building Project, which involved using Christmas trees to help nature form natural dunes. She was highly active in the city government of Surfside, serving as a City Election Judge. Jeanne was named Surfside's Citizen of the Year in 1994.

Jeanne also served as secretary for the Brazoria County Parks Commission and was involved with the opening of the Quintana Beach County Park.

Jeanne was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Freeport for 40 years and later a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson. She was a Sunday School teacher, youth director and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary where she held all offices in that organization. She was also active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League for 20 years, holding various offices.

Her personal life was rich with family and friends. She spent countless hours at her beloved beach home, the "Gables". One of her most enduring and lasting accomplishments was organizing the annual Teinert reunion at Surfside for 48 years. All future reunions will continue to feel her presence. She traveled extensively with her sister, Cooter Barnett, and travel groups to locations including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Greece, Bangkok, Australia, New Zealand and Costa Rica.

Jeanne is remembered as a gracious lady whose love and generosity will be terribly missed and never forgotten. She lived by these words: "Be happy, praise God and love your family".

She is survived by her devoted family:
Daughter Missy Evans and husband Zackie of Alvin, Texas and their children: Lisa Burns and husband Kenn, Stacey Mueller and husband Joel.

Son Pike Teinert of McCall, Idaho and his children: Jay Teinert and wife Julie, Brian Teinert, Anna Teinert and John Teinert.

Daughter Ann Elizabeth Mills and husband Gary of Sugarland, Texas and their children: Liz Swan and husband Stephen, Ashley Mills, James Mills and wife Stacie,
John Mills and wife Melanie.

Son Mark Teinert and wife Kelli of Ft Worth, Texas and their children: Paul Teinert, John Teinert and Taylor Teinert.

Great grandchildren: Kayley, Evan, Travis, Spencer, Graham, Shepherd, Sarah, Zachary, Rebekah, Natalie, Caroline, Jay Jr. and Jill.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Elmcroft, IPH and the personal sitters for the excellent care and compassion that Jeanne received during her residence there.

Visitation will be Friday, December 28th from 6 to 8 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. Marks Lutheran Church, Lake Jackson, TX. Jeanne's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials can be directed to Open Door Enterprises or St. Marks Lutheran Church
Building Fund.

Jeanne was a wonderful part of my life at St. Mark Lutheran Church. She was an inspiration to me with her grace, generosity, and kindness. She blessed me, my late husband Richard, and our family with the generosity of using The Gables when Richard was ill. I will always remember Jeanne as a very classy, yet gentle woman. May she rest in peace.
