Charles Francis Porter, "Chuck", born May 3, 1915 died January 18, 2013 at age 97. It is because of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God and His "becoming Sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" that his sons, neices, nephews, brother, grandkids, and friends can know that he, absent from his body, is "present with the Lord." We miss the pleasure of his company, but our joy is in prospect: the ageless years of eternity where no sorrow or absence is possible for those whose treasure is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

Our joy is present too because of the wealth of good memories we have of our Dad, Uncle, Brother, Grandfather, Friend. He grew up in Urbana, IL where he also attended University and where he met and married Ruth Osgood.. He often said his good fortune in life and family was "all her fault" in their sixty-five years of marriage. In 1940 he made is way to Houston and then to Freeport where he became part of First Presbyterian Church and began working at Dow Chemical Company as a chemist. He and Ruth raised a family of four boys, took part in the doings of church, Boy Scouts, and various events with friends. Those who know him often express pleasure recalling his wit and wisdom and quirks.

Chuck, preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, brothers John & Dave Porter, is survived by sons Jim, Don, Robert & Steve. Also by granddaughter Jennifer Heddlesten, grandson Henry, and great grandsons Tyler Freudensprung and Brant Heddlesten. His brother Dan lives in Colorado and sister-in-law Jackie lives in Tennessee. And there are the nieces and nephews galore.

Visitation will be at the Freeport Funeral Home on 731 West 2nd Street in Freeport, TX on Friday, January 25, 2013. The memorial service will be at the First Presbyterian Church on the 1400 block of Broad Street in Freeport, Texas on at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013. A reception will follow.

Mr. Porter was such a special friend to my family as he was to many, many others. Mr. Porter will be missed by this family as well as most of Freeport, Lake Jackson and Clute. He has done so many unspoken deeds for other's.
He has always had a soft spot in my heart. He has helped me with my Boy Scout Troup I had at the church. He has been so helpful to other's his whole life. I love that man. Mr. Porter was pract

I will miss his wit and wonderful smile. I am so grateful I got to visit with him when he came to Colorado with Don. I know dad really enjoyed it, and he misses his brother dearly. He said Uncle Chuck wanted to make it to 100, he sure came close. My thoughts and prayers are with you all today and always. Evie

I was saddened today when I learned that Chuck had gone to be with his Lord and Savior. I have many fond memories of our work days together at Dow. He was always fun to be around and we loved the honey he would bring us from his bees. In the past few years I would run into him at the Rotary shrimp boil and we would have great conversations about friends, family and his comings and goings. Our loss is God's gain. My prayers are with the family.

To Robert and the Porter family,

I am very sorry to know about Mr. Porter's death and my thoughts and prayers are with you. I remember meeting him as a youth when I went with with a friend to a scout meeting at the Presbyterian church. My mother spoke well of him from the times they worked together at the Freeport library. What a good, long life. I know you have many good memories to reflect on. My sympathy to all of you.

I deeply regret the passing of Chuck Porter. I grew up with the Porters, we did many things together and I clearly remember how kind they were to me.

My Uncle Chuck had such zeal for life! I will treasure the times I spent with him- the last being his trip to Colorado to visit his brother Dan when Uncle Chuck showed up with only the clothes on his back, a toothbrush in one pocket and a razor in the other. He was quite a wit!

uncle chuck was/is a great man. he and i spoke via phone with some regularity and i really enjoyed our conversations interlaced with fun humor, politics and stories from the past.
he had a wonderful mind, and his stories ranging from sharpening his knife on the toilet tank, walking around the block (a block of wood on the floor) to driving home and not seeing the rail crossing are just a few of my fond memories of him.
the last time i saw him, he came to visit my father (his brother) in golden,co. he had no luggage -- he was wearing a nice sport coat with a colorful tie and a nice dress overcoat with his safety razor and toothbrush in the pockets, taking 'traveling light' to an admirable level. donnie explained that he was concerned about chuck getting through airport security with the razor in his pocket. evidently there was no problem.
i will miss his presence, but i know he is in a much better place, completely immersed in unconditional love.
God speed, uncle. enjoy your new home. love, will

Chuck was such a wonderful man. He made my first few years as the Library Director of the Brazoria County Library System much easier. He took time to orient me, guide me and mentor me -- those first years were easier because of his time and kindness. He'll be missed.

I remember Uncle Chuck's special wit and joy for life. I recall with great fondness our (too few) family reunions, and will cherish memories of him and all your family in our home in Miami. God bless you all and Praise God, Chuck and Ruth are together again!

I'll definitely miss Mr. Porter. He was a very positive influence throughout my life, as a Boy Scout leader and as the dad of my good friends Steve, Robert, Don, and Jim. "Chuck" was the most important factor in my attending the monthly men's breakfast at First Presbyterian Church in Freeport. God has indeed blessed me through Mr. Porter.

Uncle Chuck will be missed. Even though I didn't have the opportunity to spend much time with him, the time spent with him was special. I have fond memories of those times. He made us laugh and always seemed to show an interest in our lives. His Christmas card this year showed that he kept up with our life of moves. I remember a time when he and Aunt Ruth were traveling to Illinois and knocked on our door very early in the morning as they were passing through Vicksburg MS. I count myself blessed to have had an uncle like him. God, I'm sure, is welcoming him with open arms along with my father and others in our family that are there to greet him. May the Lord be with your family during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Wish we could be there to give you a hug. Love and Prayers, Nancy and Rick
