"Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints" - Psalms 116 :15. Heavenly Angels escorted Doris home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 11th, 2013.
Funeral services for Doris Elaine Rawlins Henley Gameson, 78, of Freeport, TX will be held at 2:00 pm Friday February 15, 2013 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Pastor C. Grigsby officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lakewood Funeral Chapel from 6-8pm on Thursday February 14.
She was born October 10, 1934 to Timothy and Hilda (Womble) Rawlins, in Madisonville, TX. Her early years were spent on a farm, where she recounted hating the cotton fields, but loving the time she spent with her father as he completed his farming chores. Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized at Fellowship Baptist Church in 1948. She graduated from Madisonville High school in the top of her class in 1952 and shortly thereafter married Donald E. (Rip) Henley. Early in their marriage, Doris traveled with Rip to his many stations while serving in the United States Navy, and in 1957, they welcomed their only child, Kellee Elaine.
Doris faced adversity with the sudden death of her husband, leaving her widowed in 1965. Nevertheless, she persevered and realized a life-long dream of graduating nursing school in 1975. A rewarding nursing career followed highlighted by her service in the emergency room at the Community Hospital of Brazosport. She retired from nursing after 20+ years in 1996.
Her retirement years were filled with renewing old friendships, staying in touch with dear friends, bird watching, and observing nature change with the seasons. She was most proud of her genealogical research that allowed her to trace her family's lineage to the 13th century. She was a dear friend to many and known for her compassion and willingness to help others in times of need, sorrow, or joy. Her friendship will be missed by many.
Of all of her life's work, all paled in comparison to her role as a grandmother. She counted her two grandchildren as her most wonderful blessing on this earth, and she often wondered how she lived without them. Most recently, she was fortunate enough to embrace the role of great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands D.E. (Rip) Henley and R.A. Gameson, dear special friend ,Waylan S. Burke, and grandson James Lee Scott.
She is survived by beloved daughter and dear son-in-law, Kellee Henley Scott & B.L. (Scotty) Scott Jr.; precious grandchildren John Eric Scott & Lynn Wagner of Euless, TX, Julie Scott Lewno & husband Andrew Lewno of Lake Jackson, and special joy great-grandchild Connor Lewno. She is also survived by sibling, Margaret Louise Schmidt & husband Joe of Huntsville, TX, and nephews, Joey, Scott, and Travis Schmidt.
Pallbearers will be Randall E. Luster, Ronnie D. Luster, Raymond C. Luster, Joe Keith Ripple, John Eric Scott and Andrew T. Lewno.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul E. Koch, Roy E. Luster, Hazlett Whitley and Joe Ripple.
Doris' final arrangements have been entrusted to her dear friends, The Turner Family, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, 979-297-6464. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.lakewoodfuneralchapel.com.

So many happy memories; working in ER. I will never forget this sweet, staunch friend. The last several years sharing so much as email buddies. Blessed to have been a friend of hers. May the Lord comfort you all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
Hold on to her memories and be strong for each other.

1 Thessalonians 5 : 13 And now dear brothers, I want you to know what happens to a Christian when he dies so that when it happens, you will not be full of sorrow, as those are who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and then came back to life again, we can also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him all the Christians who have died.

I was so privileged to have Doris in my life for a short time while growing up. When I say I never knew a parent like her most of you know what I mean. Her relationship with Kellee and her friends was most sisterly at times, she treated us like people worth having around and not just some kids who came to play. She is the first adult I remember treating me with respect , asking me for opinions about things she was working on. She even trusted me with her beloved rubber tree plant. She has gone to be a part of our welcoming committee just as her loved ones have done for her. Being a Christian I know I will see her again with all my loved ones who accepted Jesus and have gone to wait for me.
Dear Kellee thank you for sharing her with me and may You be blessed with daily beautiful uplifting joyous memories until you see her again!
