Lawrence Henry ( Larry) Packard Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2013. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February, 21, 2013, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. Visitation will be at Lakewood Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

He was born on September 19, 1920, to Lawrence H. Packard Sr. and Agnes Doyle Packard, in Marfa, TX. He grew up in San Antonio, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1938. From there he attended Texas A&M University where he received his degree in chemical engineering with the class of 1942.






He joined the army immediately after college and was stationed in Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland. From there, he met and married Josephine Ash in Birmingham, Alabama, and moved to Freeport in 1946 where they had two sons .


He worked for Dow Chemical for 38 years and after retiring, pursued his love of photography by opening Portraits by Packard in Lake Jackson.


He married his second wife, Helen Kincannon, on February 23, 1974, after his first wife's passing.


He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.


He is survived by wife, Helen; son, Lawrence and wife, Genie; son, Steven and wife, Sherre; stepson, Kim Kincannon and wife, Laurie; stepson, Douglas Kincannon and wife, Alexa; grandchildren, Kathryn and husband, John Ellis, John and wife, Aline, Andy, Matt and Steven Jr. and wife, Deanna, Kyle Kincannon and wife, Jenny, Kent Kincannon, Kate Roberts and husband, Cliff and Kellye and Kirby Kincannon; great-grandchildren, John Michael, Joshua, Jason and Jackson Ellis, Juliana, Jaxson and Kenley and Karsyn Kincannon.


Although his body was failing, his mind never left him.


Larry loved to travel the world, either through work or for pleasure. He lived in Brazil while he worked for Dow and traveled through Europe many times.


He was a devote member and active in many ministries at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.


He involved himself in several organizations. He was a Rotarian for years, participating in many events, the Shrimp Boil being his favorite. He was also a member of multiple garden and photography clubs throughout his life.


Larry had a great sense of humor. He always had a joke ready, as quick with one as he was with a loving comment.


He would talk to strangers as if they had known each other for years. Anyone who met him, even for the briefest of moments, had nothing but the kindest of words to say about him.


Larry was a staunch supporter of civil rights, always speaking out on the injustices of the world.


His voice carried the loudest through letters to the editor of the local newspaper.


Larry had many passions in his life, but none more than his family. He was supportive of any venture we undertook as long as we were happy doing it. We never stopped learning from his wisdom, even if he did not know he was teaching it. He was as proud of his family as his family was of him.


Many love you and you will be missed greatly, but we will meet again. Until then, enjoy all the pineapple shakes and Bluebell ice cream in heaven.
