Charlie Robert Minter, Jr.

of Richwood, TX

December 22, 1973 - March 24, 2013

  • Obituary
  • Guestbook

Charlie Robert Minter, Jr. was born in Freeport, Texas on December 22, 1973, to Lockie Vernon Minter and Charlie Robert Minter, Sr. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 24th, 2013 at the age of 39.

He was preceded in death by his best friend and father, Charlie Robert Minter, Sr. Charlie is survived by his wife of eight years, Kristine Vining Minter, and son, Zane Robert Minter, of Richwood; mother, Lockie Minter of Freeport; mother-in-law, Becki Vining of Richwood; brother, Tony Lopez and wife, Misty of Angleton; sister, Angie Shoemaker and husband, Mike of Angleton; sister, Charlotte Kelly and husband, Nathan of Angleton; special GG, Loretta Hammett of Midland, Georgia; father-in-law, Gray Vining and wife, Teresa of Rosharon; brother-in-law, Rob Vining of Austin; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charlie was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He worked for Dow Chemical Company as a project scheduler. An avid sportsman, Charlie loved fishing, hunting, surfing, and anything outdoors. His four-year-old son, Zane, was the light of his life and he cherished every moment he could with him. He was fond of debating religion, politics, and gun control but above all he loved his God and his family. He loved life and it showed in everything he did. Charlie's energy was infectious and his humor was an amazing bright light to anyone in his presence.

Charlie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in September of 2011 and given a short-term prognosis. With Kristi by his side, he confronted the disease with unwavering resolve. His mainstay was his faith in Jesus Christ. He said in the beginning of this challenge that if his determination could bring just one person closer to Christ that it would be worth everything he went through. Before his death, he found comfort knowing that he had accomplished his goal. His memory will live on to inspire others to live life with determination, love, faith, and hope.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Gerson Clinic in Tijuana, Mexico, Angleton-Danbury Medical Center, and St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, as well as the nursing staff of AMED Home Health. Special thanks to Dr. Pedro Cervantes, Dr. Nizar Charafeddine, Dr. Juliet Holder-Haynes and Dr. Paul Wells.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a fund set aside for Zane's education at TDECU, 1001 FM 2004, Lake Jackson, TX 77566. Please designate Zane Minter and account #2084230 on your gift.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 28th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Jackson followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. at Willow Drive Baptist Church in Lake Jackson. Burial will be on Good Friday, March 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Restwood Cemetery in Lake Jackson.

Final arrangements are being made by the Turner Family at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel, (979) 297-6464. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.lakewoodfuneralchapel.com.

I had the privilege of teaching Charlie his senior year in high school. I remember him as being very caring and insightful. He always could come up with topics of interest to discuss and was a wonderfully polite and respectful young man. I remember that he was always sticking up for the underdog. He helped make that particular class one of the absolute best I ever had the privilege to teach.

I worked with Charlie briefly in 1993 at Lake Jackson Wal-Mart on night receiving crew. We were about the same age and I remember him as a young man with lots of blonde hair and a great attitude. I recognized his picture and knew it was Charlie from Wal-Mart. Very sad to see this but I know we all pass through this world but one time and onto a better one. God Bless you my friend.
