of Sweeny, TX

September 5, 1953 - April 28, 2013

James David Ruddick, 59, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at his home after a long and courageous battle with diabetes. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Jones Creek Baptist Church with Brother Brent Pittman officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be at Lakewood Funeral Chapel on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and interment will be in the Gulf Prairie Cemetery.

David was born September 5, 1953 to James Barlow and Dorothy Jones Ruddick of Freeport, Texas, and was the eldest of four children. He was married to Lesa Moore Ruddick and is survived by his 4 children, Cindi Ruddick (Cesar) Calderon of Angleton, Lori Ruddick (Greg) Drake of Belize, Kimberli Ruddick of Sweeny, and Brandon Ruddick of Sweeny.

He is also survived by three sisters and their families, Janet Ruddick McKeever, of Hallsville, Patti Ruddick Sutphin, of Spring, and Laura Ruddick Abbott, of Oyster Creek. He leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren, Colton and Ava Drake.

David was a 1972 graduate of Brazosport High School and lived in the area his entire life. He was a heavy equipment operator for M & M Contractors, Timmons Equipment, S & M Contractors, and Dow Road and Bridge Department. He developed a love for computer technology and later grew a small business repairing, building, and networking computers for family and friends. He was also employed as a computer technician for Brazosport Independent School District until his health failed.

David was an avid fisherman and hunter and spent most of his life sharing these sports with his friends. He enjoyed floundering, duck hunting, surf fishing and deer hunting. He had lots of "tall" tales about his excursions and enjoyed telling about them. He was very close to his extended family and always had a nickname for them that made everyone laugh. He spent time learning as much as he could about computers and this became a consuming hobby and livelyhood later in life. He eagerly shared his knowledge with others and was always talking them into letting him install the newest and most innovative components to their computers and he passed this hobby on to his children. When David lost his sight, his son Brandon would build and repair computers for him with him telling him how to do it. They became a great team. He also loved to garden with his family. David was a Christian and was a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Grover Boyd, Kenneth Ruddick, Mike Ruddick, Brandon Ruddick, Carl Roberts, Cesar Calderon, David Etherton and Phillip Ford. Honorary pallbearers are Brantley Fairchild, Kim Fairchild, and Roger Mallory.

The family would like to express their gratitude to employees and staff of Bethany Home Health and to Sweeny Wound Care for their kindness and support.
