Carla was a very special person to me. One of the happiest days was when she married my nephew Steve Payne. She loved him so very much and he loved her with all his heart. He gave up everything he had to be sure he was by her side. May God take care of them both now and forever.

I was so sorry to hear about Carla's passing. We had so many good times during school. Carla and her first husband, Ron'e lived in Wichita Falls while my husband and I were in college and we had lots of fun times going to their house and playing spades when she was pregnant with her first son. I'm so glad that Carla was part of my life and I have many wonderful memories of her. Your family is in our prayers. -- Patti Moore Poe

I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the family. I wanted to share with you how loved Carla was by her classmates in the Doctorate of Nursing Practice program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She lifted our spirits and shared her knowledge willingly. She always had a very fitting Texas-ism for every situation that made us laugh. I know she touched many lives and helped to improve healthcare in her many roles. We grieve her loss and hope the respect and esteem we had for Carla comforts you and know that she will live on in our memories.

Carla was an amazing woman. I have always admired her for her strength, conviction, work ethic, advocacy and compassion. She exemplified the meaning of nursing, and was the reason I joined the St. John Hospital ICU crew. Her passing is a palpable loss to the healthcare community. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Carla was a wonderful person! I served as her Capstone Advisor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing and enjoyed working with her. She had many ideas and believed in the importance of nursing. She will be missed. Godspeed to her family.

Dearest Uncle Richard, Aunt Doris, and family,

Bennett and I were so sad to hear that Carla passed away. I had not seen her in many years, but felt close to her and her family through the updates I would receive from you, through my mother.

Carla was a beautiful, successful, and strong woman. You both were loving, caring parents. I know your were so proud of her and words are inadequate to describe your loss.

You all are in our hearts and prayers. We love you and wish we could be near at this sad time.

With deep sympathy,

Bennett and Sharon
