Jack Everett Crabtree ,72, of Lake Jackson went home to see Jesus Sunday December 1, 2013 while under treatment for Multiple Myeloma. He was born April 13, 1941 to Thomas Walter and Annie Inez Willson Crabtree in Valliant, OK. However, he liked to say that he got to Texas as fast as he could. He grew up in Montague County, Texas not far from the Red River. He first attended Midwestern University at Wichita Falls then graduated from West Texas State University at Canyon, TX in 1965 with a BS in Biology/Geology. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson where he taught Sunday School. He was a 40 year member of The Masonic Lodge of Canyon, TX. He volunteered for many years at the Port Ministry in Freeport, and also was a group leader for Community Bible Study. He was blessed to be able to make several special mission trips; two to Mexico and later five amazing trips to Africa. Jack was a man of great compassion and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone he met that had a need. He will be greatly missed by many.
During his career he worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife as a fisheries biologist and then for the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service as Biologist for the Buffalo and Longhorn herds at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and as manager of San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge and also Tishomingo NWR. As a biologist, Jack never saw a snake he didn't want to pick up to look at or a wild hog he didn't want to trap. He could ride herd on the buffalo or longhorns with the best of the cowboys and never played it safe while driving the airboat or marsh buggy at San Bernard NWR. He could get stuck with the best of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Billy John Crabtree.
Jack is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Linda Miller Crabtree, daughters Jackie Lynn Uselton and Catherine Diann Westmoreland and beloved grandchildren, Thomas Jack Uselton, Christen Ashlee Uselton, Robert Paul Hetu, and Rebecca Lynn Hetu. He is also survived by his brother Tom Crabtree and wife Dorothy and sister-in-law Sheila Crabtree of Nocona, TX. He is survived by a number of much loved nieces and nephews and other extended family members as well.
Services will be held Wed., Dec. 4 at First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson, 401 Yaupon at 9:30 a.m. for visitation and service at 10:30. Graveside services will be held at Montague, Texas on Friday, Dec. 5.
