Elinor Willbanks, 93, a resident of Lake Jackson, since 1944, passed away at home in January after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on January 24, 2014, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. The family will accept visitors immediately after the service in the reception room. Entombment will be private. Elinor led a long, happy life and will be remembered as "a lady" and a Christian who was loved deeply by her family and friends.

Elinor is survived by a son, Ken Willbanks, of Lake Jackson, daughter, Lou Chachere and husband, John, of Houston; three granddaughters, Gina Willbanks and husband, Jeff and Ginny Morrison, and husband, Nick, both of Spring, and Carolyn Chachere, of Austin; daughter-in-law, Genette Willbanks and husband, Ian, of Spring.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, K. D. in 2013; son, Greg in 2006; her parents; and three older siblings.

Elinor was born and raised in the central Texas town of Blum on February 6, 1920, to Burleson and Edna Rogers Morrison. After high school graduation in 1936, she moved to Dallas to work for Neiman-Marcus as a milliner before marrying K. D. in 1944 and relocating to Lake Jackson shortly thereafter.

Elinor was equally comfortable as a runway model for LaVelle's Dress Shop back in the day or manning the concession stand at the Little League, Softball League, and Sugg's Field games where her kids played ball. Along the way, she worked for Dow Chemical, the Post Office, Freeport Office Supply, and City Hall. She was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church. "Off" time was often spent playing bridge or 42 with dear friends as well as babysitting her grandkids at a moment's notice.

Elinor was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed greatly by her family.

Love to the Wilbanks family. Elie was a dear, dear friend of my family growing up. So many wonderful memories of the amazing laughter coming from the 42 table in our homes. Lou and I trying to figure out the best way to get the okay for for spending the night with each other and making so many frosted cokes. Elie was loved by me and will be missed, but I know she is so happy in heaven with those that went before.
