Clifford Leon Holloway, 87, of El Lago, Texas passed peacefully from this world on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in his home neighborhood. Cliff was born on the 12th of October, 1926 in Luling Texas to the late Gerald Leon Holloway and Alice Rebecca Williams and is also preceded by one brother Gerald Holloway who lived in Harlingen, Texas. Growing up Cliff lived in many small south Texas towns as his father worked in the oil patch and they moved around frequently. He really did walk to school bare foot in the 1st & 2nd grades because he did not want to wear out his good shoes. Cliff was only 14 when he lost his father in an oil well fire and was raised by his mother until he joined the Navy when he turned 17. He was deployed the South Pacific in WWII and soon found himself on the shores of Iwo Jima where he proudly served his country. After coming home from the war Cliff returned to live with his mother who had remarried and had moved to Clute, Texas. Cliff soon joined the Marine Reserves and was called to active duty for the Korean War where he again proudly served his country. He was wounded in combat and was sent home to begin civilian life in Lake Jackson. Cliff was highly decorated for his brave service in both of his tours of duty. Here Cliff started a long history of his many professional careers that include assignments at Dow Chemical Purchasing, Brazosport Facts Newspaper, DJ at a local radio station, Senior Buyer at Philco Ford / NASA and Purchasing Supervisor for Stewart Stevenson Oil Tool Division. Cliff still ready for more action then tried his hand in the law enforcement field where he held numerous positions including Brazoria County Sheriff's Department, El Lago City Marshal and Police Chief, Harris County Marine Sheriff Diver and finally a Federal Marshal before finally retiring at age 70.Cliff had a very active personal life that included numerous close friends and associates, several wives but no children. He among other things was an airplane pilot, scuba diver & instructor, avid hunter and fisherman and won the Texas Bass Fishing Championship many years ago. He also raced boats with the famous oil well fire fighter Red Adair in the roaring 60's. Late in life Cliff lived to go bird hunting, fishing and to play poker with his close friends. Cliff is survived by cousins; Luella Amerine, Elizabeth Ann Witherspoon, Bradford I Williams, Mable J Elliott, Billy L Ray, Betty Rusk, Joyce Scott and Gail Harvey. Also special close friends: Don Moore, Sharon & Charles Hutchins, Cathy Hanna, Doug Huntsman and Randy Skopinski.
