Joe Soria Diaz, 67, of Freeport, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 in Houston, Texas. He was born July 18, 1946 in Freeport, Texas to Pablo and Teresa Diaz. He was a longshoreman for over thirty years. Joe was very family oriented and loved to go fishing and hanging out with his friends, especially his "Mc Donald" buddies. He had a love for life and his grandchildren. Joe would throw a bar-b-que outside his home just to be around his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Paul, Alfonso, Frank, George Diaz and 1 sister Tomasa Torres.

Joe is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Concepcion of Freeport,
3 children: Joe Diaz, Jr. and wife Azucena of Freeport, Ricky Diaz and wife Adriana of Freeport, Sophia Diaz and fiancé' Juan Salinas of Freeport, 8 grandchildren: Valerie Diaz, Ricky Diaz, Jr., James Diaz, Michael Diaz, Mark Diaz, Christopher Cruz, Ruben Canales, III, and Joey Villanueva, III, and
1 brother, Tony Vargas and wife Delia of Galveston.

The family will receive friends 6pm until 8pm Wednesday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:30 Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery.

Pall bearers will be Joe Diaz, Jr., Ricky Diaz, Juan Salinas, Michael Diaz, Ricky Diaz, Jr., and James Diaz.

" DIAZ, we grew up together, in Freeport, and started "kindergarten" the same day, our "moms" were best friends, as me and Tomie" his sister ,was my best friend" he was best friends with my brother "JOE" LOPEZ jr. also,he was a "Friend" of mine, he treated me as his Sister" always, with respect , in all the years I knew him, I Loved him " as a Brother"........R.I.P. my dearest friend:
