Charles Acie Sullivan, (Sully), aged 93, died peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Houston, Texas. Services in his memory will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Jackson, Texas. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Restwood Memorial Park, with graveside services by the United States Marine Corps and Masonic services conducted by the Lake Jackson Lodge 1713.

Acie was born in Quinlin, Texas on August 2, 1920, to William Lewis and Annie Myrtle (Casebolt) Sullivan. He grew up in Kerens, Texas, where he was a Star Boy Scout, who learned sign language so that he could better serve the local deaf community in his father's store. Always interested in electronics, he attended Tyler Commercial College, where he received a First Class Federal Radio Telephone Operator License. While working at KTBC radio station in Austin, he attended the University of Texas and met his future wife.

Charles Acie Sullivan served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He enlisted in 1942 and served until the end of the war in 1945. He rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant and was a forward radar intercept operator. He served overseas in Marine Corps Squadron VMF(N)-531 the "Grey Ghosts". They were the first naval aviation night-fighter squadron to operate in the South Pacific, participating in the Solomon Campaign in the Pacific Theater. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he continued to work in the field of electronics in his civilian life. Throughout his life Acie maintained membership in the American Legion, Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Devil Dogs, and the Marine Night-Fighters Association.

In 1942, he married Lorraine Terry, and in 1948, they moved their family to The City of Lake Jackson for a job at the Dow Chemical Company, where they raised their four children during their 47-year marriage. Acie retired from Dow after 34 years of service as an electronic technician, primarily working at the old Dow Airport and in the radio shop, where he eventually became the manager. Many old time residents will remember him for his moonlight career as a television repairman. In fact, he sold the first television in the city, and even during his eighth decade, was installing and servicing the radios for the area police and fire departments.

The Sullivans were long time members of the First UnitedMethodist Church of Lake Jackson. In addition, Acie has been a member of the Lake Jackson Lodge No. 1317 for well over fifty years, The Grand Lodge of Texas, and the El Mina Shriners.

Acie Sullivan loved to travel, especially on trains, and his family was often fortunate to accompany him on his adventures. He also enjoyed people, and made friends wherever he went. His devotion to the family pets was so well known that a family friend once said that he would believe in reincarnation if he could be promised to return as a Sullivan dog. Above all, he was the best of fathers and grandfathers and a sweet gentleman role model for all who knew him.

Acie was preceded in death by wives Lorraine Terry Sullivan and Doris Bull Looke Sullivan, and by daughter, Donna Gayle Sullivan. He is survived by his wife Geraldine and by his children, Terry Ann Sullivan of Houston, Candace Sullivan Silcott and son-in-law John of Taylor Lake Village, and William Luke Sullivan and daughter-in-law Camille of Pearland; grandchildren, David Morton and wife Julie of Carmel, Indiana, Melissa Morton Ferrata of Houston, Tyler Silcott and wife Sarah of Sugar Land, Laine Silcott of Taylor Lake Village, and Susan Sullivan of Pearland. He is also blessed with eight great grandchildren: Lauren, Brian, Valerie, Caitlyn, and Kevin Morton, Katherine and Heather Ferrata, and Aviana Wentzell. He is also survived by other loving family and friends, including step-grandchildren, Shawn Silcott Khoury and John Silcott, II.

I am sorry I missed Acie's funeral service. I worked with him from 1977 until he retired at Dow. We traveled together servicing Dow Pipeline radios and working on the Dow microwave system. He knew all the restaurants to visit on those travels and always made sure to bring the steak scraps home for his pets. When I retired from Dow December 31st, 2007 and was driving home on that last day I called Acie to tell him I had finally retired and was taking up my hobby repairing 1920's through 1950's vacuum tube radios.

I am sorry to learn of the loss of Mr. Sullivan. Although I didn't get to know him personally, it is always sad to learn a family has lost a loved one. It will be so wonderful when our 'enemy death will be brought to nothing' and we will no longer worry about our loved ones passing away! (1 Corinthians 15:26) I hope God will 'comfort your hearts' during this sad time. (2 Thessalonians 2:17)
