Cyril J. Purvis, 96, a native Texan, (former resident of Surfside), went to be with the Lord June 6, 2014. He was born July 12, 1917 in Haslem, Texas to Simon and Alma Purvis. Cyril was a retiree from Schlumberger. He was a Brazoria County Municipal Judge. Cyril was a member of the Anchor Church in Surfside.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of fifty years, Violet, two sons: Paul and Cyril; three brothers: Paul, Dayton and Simon Purvis and one sister, Nevada Seltzer.

Cyril is survived by two children: Violet Neeley of Rosenberg,
Matthew Purvis of Amarillo, Texas,
grand daughter: Lanelle Ashlely of Rosenberg, Texas and
brother, Buford Purvis of Spring, Texas.

The family will receive friends 6pm until 8pm Wednesday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:30am Thursday, June 11, 2014 at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Private graveside services will follow.

Mr. Purvis was a dear friend of our family and I could never say enough good things about him. As a kid, we spent almost every Thanksgiving at their house and when they moved to Surfside we continued that same tradition. It was with great sadness that I learned of his passing but also realize he is now in a better place. My prayers go out to all of his family.
