Frankie Lou O'Banion Mooman

Frankie Lou O'Banion Mooman, of Angleton, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jessie Emma Mabry O'Banion; her husband, Mervin Clement Mooman; her brothers, Leonard Eugene O'Banion and Van Clifford (Sonny) O'Banion; and her sisters, Willie Mae Carter, Dorothy Marie Hammond, and Athalea Poteet.

She is survived by daughter, Sherry Lynn Fisher and husband, Kenneth C., of Angleton; daughter, Pamela Gayle Mooman, of San Antonio; grandson, Kyle Ryan Fisher and wife, Jessica, of Angleton; brother-in-law, Charlie Hammond, of Angleton; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of the Kiber Street Church of Christ. She was born in Bedias, Texas, on Tuesday, October 28, 1930, the youngest child of Frank and Jessie Emma O'Banion.

At Bedias High School, she was involved in many activities. She played volleyball for four years and was team captain. She served as treasurer of the senior class and editor of the yearbook. She was also a cheerleader and was voted "Most Popular Girl" by her classmates. She graduated in 1948 as Salutatorian of her class.

She met her future husband when her parents opened a small grocery store on Avenue D in Velasco, Texas. M. C. worked at the Missouri-Pacific Railroad Depot down the street from the grocery store. The close proximity of his office to the store provided the perfect opportunity for him to get to know the storekeepers' pretty daughter better.

They were married on Friday, February 16, 1951, and set up housekeeping in a small house on Avenue A. Soon after, she went to work at the Velasco State Bank. Their first daughter, Sherry, was born during this time, and, needing more room, they moved to a larger house up the street. They realized the American Dream of home ownership when they built a new home in Clute and moved there in 1955.

She worked for Dow Chemical Company in the teletype department for several years, leaving there in 1961 to work for Brazosport Independent School District as the principal's secretary at T. W. Ogg Elementary School. Next, she moved to A. P. Beutel Elementary School, taking a break from professional work when daughter, Pamela, was born in 1968. After seven years, she returned to work as the principal's secretary at Bess Brannen Elementary School. She retired at mid-term in 1990.
She was widowed in 1994 and moved to Angleton to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She was an avid gardener and had a lifelong love of writing and literature. She also enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes. She loved animals and took in many rescues through the years. A devoted daughter, wife, mother, and sister, she considered others' welfare first, and she leaves behind many beloved friends.

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 28, 2014, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2014, with Zeke Flores officiating.

Pallbearers are Charlie Hammond, Jerry Sechrest, Drinnon Roberts, Robert Ruhmann, Kyle Fisher, and Kenneth C. Fisher.
