Eris Marie Lanier July 25, 1923 to February 1, 2015

Heaven welcomed home a beautiful angel on Sunday morning. Eris "Marie" Lanier left her earthly home to join her husband, E.J. in their heavenly mansion.

Marie was born on July 25, 1923 and passed away February 1, 2015. She was born to David and Miranda (Fannin) Stephens in Madison County, Texas. The 3rd of 7 children she married E.J. Lanier on January 23, 1942. Marie and E.J. celebrated 61 years of marriage before he passed away in 2003.

Marie and E.J. made Madisonville their home, welcoming their only daughter Sylvia in 1944. In 1945, the little family moved to Freeport where E.J. went to work for Dow. They bought their little house in Clute in 1952 and Marie stayed home with Sylvia, sewing for friends and family and taking care of their extended family. She loved visitors and would always have a meal prepared for whoever stopped by. After E.J. retired from Dow in 1978 they moved back to Madisonville where they gardened, played 42 with friends, took care of their neighbors and Marie continued to sew. As fate would have it they would return to Brazoria County in 1994 making their forever-home in Lake Jackson. They came back to watch their great grandchildren Jessica, Cassidy and Corey Shields grow up.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband E.J. Lanier, infant son Wilburn Ray, and sisters: Belle Jones, Inez Stephens, Mary Lou Durden, and Christine Mafaffey, Brother Bernie Ray Stephens and Sister in law and husband Lucille and Gene Thomas. She is survived by daughter Sylvia Lanier Rhodes of Lake Jackson, granddaughter Kennea Rhodes Shields and husband Mike of Richwood and great grandchildren Jessica Shields of Nacogdoches, Cassidy and Corey Shields of Richwood, Sister, Laverne Jones of Cypress and special friend Lou McConathy of Bowie.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral will be at 2:00 pm at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

The family would like to thank Raine, Sherwyn and Margie of Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice for their care.

Arrangements by Lakewood Funeral Home.

Sylvia,

I wish I could have been there for Aunt Rie's funeral. She was one of my favorite aunt's. Although, I didn't get to see her very often, I still loved her very much. I will keep you all in my prayers. Love, Susie

May God bless you and keep you, and make His face shine upon you, and give you peace.

Wishing I could be there in person to celebrate Marie's home going. Praying for comfort and joy even through the sadness.

With love,
Darla Neisemier and family (Lona Belle's granddaughter by Joyce)
