Elmo James Cormier, Sr., a longtime resident of Freeport, Texas, passed away March 18, 2015. He was born June 7, 1916 to Oneil and Ida Lanclos Cormier in Port Arthur, Texas. Elmo was married to Myrtle Marie Luqette Cormier October 16, 1941, who preceded him in death. Survivors include son Elmo James Cormier, Jr. (Jay) and daughter-in-law Sandy; son Ronald Joseph Cormier. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren Marlo Cormier, Jayson Cormier, Allyson Cormier, Nicole Cormier, Bradley Graham, Colleen Rindfuss, Brian Graham and Christopher Graham. He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Elmo is predeceased by his parents and sisters Pearl Patin, Ruby Domingue, Melba Simon, and Joyce Romero. Elmo left for service with the 692nd Amphibious Engineers in 1941. In April 1942 he went overseas in the Pacific Theater of World War II for 2 1/2 years. He was in Power Services Dept., The Dow Chemical Company, Texas Division from 1946 1981. After retirement Elmo and Myrtle travelled extensively with favorite destination to Nova Scotia, Canada. He was very active in St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Freeport, Texas, and also in the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus where he was a Past Faithful Navigator. He also spent many years in the Brazosport Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Ms. Cynthia Hands and thanks to Elmcroft staff.
