He was born September, 25, 1951, in Freeport, Texas, to parents Emmet Lee "Jack" Bass and Bess Calhoun.
He attended Brazosport High School and graduated in 1970.
Gary was an avid local fisherman and hunter. He loved the outdoors, including water skiing, surfing, and camping. He was well known in the community he resided, and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed, and we will cherish all our fond memories of him.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Emmet Lee "Jack" Bass and Bess Calhoun, and nephew Gary Lynn Lecompte.
He is survived by daughter Jennifer Michelle Carter (Edward), son Tyler Lee Bass, grandson Matthew Logan Carter, Sister Barbara Lecompte (Larry), niece Patricia Jordan (Howard), nephews Larry Lecompte Junior and Jerry Lecompte (Cheryl), cousin Elizabeth Anne Odom, special friend Melissa Mann, great nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
A private memorial service for Gary Edwin Bass will be held Friday, May 1 with Pastor Brent Bowers officiating.

Just found out the bad news and I'm so sorry to hear. Gary was a seriously good buddy even though we had not seen each other for years. We worked on a drilling rig together in the early 80's and had many an escapade afterwards. Dear friend, you'll be missed. To your family and other friends I wish the best. I'm sorry I got here so late but I just found out.

My Aunt and Uncle lived next door to Gary's home in Freeport. My brother and I spent summers visiting them as young children up through high school. Last time I saw your dad was in 1983 in Harlingen, Texas. I have wonderful memories of him. I am so very sorry for your loss. Gary was a wonderful person who was loved by many.
