Cyril Locke Wilcox

of Freeport, TX

August 1, 1927 - June 12, 2015

The date was August 1, 1927, when his parents, Ira Camp Wilcox and Maude lee Lawson Wilcox, and brother, Ira Camp (I.C.) Jr. and Jordan Lee (Jimmy), welcomed Cyril Locke into the world.

Cyril grew into a fine man, the kind of person who had a lot of friends who thought a lot of him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was always willing to share his know how with youngsters. Golf was another sport that he enjoyed.

Cyril's love for people was evident, as owner of the Twentieth Century Club in Freeport. Many a young boy found a place there where they could depend on him to see that they didn't get into any trouble, and where old timers gathered to play pool or dominoes. Parents knew if their boys were there, they were in good hands.

The carefree life for Cyril changed in 1958, when he married Genevieve (Gennie) Zirlott. Together they were blessed with their son, Lee. Their family grew with Lee's marriage to Theresa and Lee became step-dad to Jacob and Samantha Brown. Samantha and Jamie Copeland's marriage gave us the joy of two beautiful great-grandchildren, Paige and Presley.

Cyril finished his earthly journey on Friday, June 12, 2015, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson, Texas.

There will be a memorial service for him at Lakewood Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. with pastors Lee and Leslie Attema of the Freeport Presbyterian Church.

Friends may visit the family from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Lakewood. His niece, Lisa Zirlott-Westergaard, will honor her Uncle Cyril through songs.

Paige, Presley, Samantha, Jamie, and Jacob will miss "Pop" as Cyril was affectionately called. Lee, Theresa and Genevieve will miss him too. God bless you Sweetheart, Dad, Pop, we'll all see you later.

I am very sad for your loss. I wanted to attend the services on Tuesday, however, the weather did not cooperate with me. I didn't know Mr Wilcox, but if he is anything like his son Lee, he is a wonderful person. My prayers go out to you and your family.

I have many fond memories of playing pool or watching guys playing snooker at the 20th Century Pool Hall. It was one of my grandfather's favorite spots. Mr. Wilcox was a part of what made Freeport a great place to call home.
