Martha Sue will always hold a special place in my heart. I started my teaching career at O.A. Fleming. I have so many memories of Martha Sue from those years-her sense of humor, words of wisdom (about teaching), joy for living, patience while teaching me a new crafting skill, and her love for her family.

My condolences to JP, Karen, Casie and Cody during this time.

Martha Sue holds a very dear place in my heart. She was so good to my family and I felt, to me in particular. During my Sophomore year in high school, every Thursday night during football season, she met me in her workshop and helped me create incredible gifts for my Brazosport Exporter "Secret Pal" (wooden plaques, jointed puppets, etc...truly exceptional).

I also have a no. of her handmade ornaments that I treasure placing on our Christmas tree each year.

JP, you were truly blessed with wonderful parents, and so were the Normans blessed to have your family as neighbors.

I pray HIS peace over you and your family.
Love,
Barbara.

J.P. And family, our deepest sympathy at the passing of your Mom. She was so well loved and always a bright spot in many lives. I enjoyed crafting with her many years ago and Duane working with your Dad. You were always such a joy to them!
Her sweet smile, contagious laugh, and zest for life will long be remembered! God's peace.

I may not remember all the words that was spoken and lessons that was taught to me some 30 years ago but I remember the empact Mrs. Westbrook made in my life. She was my 2nd grade teacher at OA Fleming and she was an inspiration to me and that is one of the main reasons I'm in education today. Thank you so much for the lifelong impact you made. Teachers have a special place in HEAVEN.

Mrs Westbrook was not only an amazing teacher but she was a precious lady. Although she was my 1st grade teacher she still remembered me and spoke to me each time I saw her all through the years later. After 55 years she still stood out in my mind as a person who made a large footprint on my life. God rest her soul and many prayers and comfort to her family.

JP,
I have a kitchen towel that your mama gave my mama, after one of their trips that says, "Neighbors make the best friends." To me that simple little sentence epitomizes the neighborhood that we grew up in. We were so fortune to have so many mamas looking out for us and so many places that felt like home. Your mama was such a good hearted person and meant so much to our family. Not just being an integral part of so many of our childhoods, but she was such a dear friend to our mama. Their travels, trips across the alley to chit chat and phone calls to check on one another were their love language. I know without a doubt that after your daddy led your mama to heaven she called, "Howdy-do!", to let everyone know that she finally made it home. Big hug JP.

It's sad to hear of Martha Sue's passing. She and I go back to attending school together at Freeport JR. High and walking home on Fourth Street, where we lived one block from each other. Then we fast forward to her and Ward both teaching school. Martha loved Ward so much. Of course the "apple of their eye" was their son. Fast forward again, we're Martha's pride and joys were her grandchildren! Martha Sue enjoyed many trips to Canton, taking her friends in her motor home. She was one smart, sweet and independent lady. I will miss seeing her ou and about. She is at rest now. I have no doubt Ward welcomed her into his loving arms. I'll remember Martha Sue with find thoughts, reflecting on our journey of friendship in this life's journey. God bless her family.

I have known Martha Sue since we moved to Freeport in 1941 and were in nursery together at First Baptist Church of Freeport. We hung out with the same group of friends throughout our days and graduated from Brazosport High School. We have stayed in contact through the years. I will miss seeing her at out Fab 50's reunions each spring as she was always one of the first friencly faces I would see when I arrived because she was registering and giving out namae tags to our classmates.. We could have claimed to be kinfolks except that our last name was not spelled the same...mine with an a and hers with an e. I remember Martha Sue for her good sense of humor and how she liked to kid around with others.

I've known Martha Sue all my life. She was born 3 days before me and somewhere there is a photo of us as infants. We went to school together and still met on birthdays to celebrate the women we grew up with. That is before covid. Loved her. She always was so positive and always said that she had had a wonderful life. She will be missed by the people here in this area that loved her dearly.
