J R Shiflet, 91 of Clute passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021 with his family and his Pastor Ronald Evans by his side. He was born April 7, 1930 in Grimes County, Texas to Ira Neal and Effie Irene Shiflet. He worked construction and then went to work for in Dow in 1974 and retired in 1985. J R was involved in youth sports and help build Cobb field. J R was a member of Rock Church.

He is preceeded in death by his wife, of 65 years Velma, his parents, 7 siblings, 2 grandchildren: Calvin Shiflet, Jr and Casey Rae Monk an 1 great grandson Jarod Ramos.

J R is survived by three children: Brenda Finley and husband Norman of Sweeny, Calvin Shiflet and wife Susan of Clute, Carolyn Clifton of Clute, 5 grandchildren: Tonya Wilkinson, and husband Jay, Dwight Finley and wife Cheryl, Jake Finley and wife Christina, Patricia Fernandez and husband Troy, Jimmy Clifton and wife Delaine, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 6pm to 8 pm Thursday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 10am Friday, May 7, 2021 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ronald Evans and Bishop Jeffrey Smith officiating.

Graveside services will be 4pm Friday at Pankey Cemetery in Bedias, Texas.

Pall bearers will be: Dwight Finley, Jake Finley, Sr., Jake Finley Jr. , Troy Fernandez, Jimmy Clifton, Jacob Clifton, Corey Orchard, Joey Wilkinson and Rowdy Wilkinson.

He loved gardening, fishing, hunting and never met a stranger.
