Rodney Dallas Kellison

of Lake Jackson, TX

July 30, 1951 - July 14, 2021

Rodney Dallas Kellison, 69, known to family and friends as Rod, left this world on July 14th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Kellison and Wanda Lunsford. He is survived by Anh Nguyen, his loving wife of 17 years, his brother Ronnie Kellison, his two stepsons Daniel Nguyen and Andre Nguyen, and his stepfather Gary Lunsford.

Rod was born and raised in Kirksville, Missouri. After earning his BS in Chemical Engineering and MS in Chemistry from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Dow summoned him to Texas. He subsequently made Lake Jackson his home for 46 years while working at Dow for 34 years. Following his retirement, he worked as a contractor for 11 more years. Rod spent decades as a process and process-safety engineer. His specialty was pressure relief systems. He enjoyed designing, installing, and inspecting relief devices and flare systems. His imprint on relief systems at Dow is unmistakably present.

Rod was a consummate gentleman. He was kind, genuine, and always ready to help with whatever was needed. He was no fashionista, but we all felt his warm personality, regardless of his clothes. In his free time, he would often relax and snooze on his favorite recliner, where he would also watch movies, TV shows, and sports. One thing that gripped his attention was baseball. Particularly, he loved the Houston Astros and we will always remember him when we watch baseball. We fondly remembered the 2017 World Series celebration, and it is a shame he passed before our 'Stros' 2nd World Series later this year. The absence of Rod's lopsided smile will leave a somber void in our lives but his gentle spirit and soul can never be forgotten.

Rod was such a dear person. He was kind to all people. No matter what the time at work, I could stop by and visit with him about engineering questions, which he would easily find the information on or the stock market and its latest gyration.
I always remember him fondly and bless him in his place in Heaven. I am so sad about his early departure.

I pray for blessings upon the family. He was a gift.

You will be missed Rod. Always a gentleman. Thanks for put up with and become a part of a large family of Vietnamese. You are such a caring person and will be a large void in our life. I am sorry that you did not reach the 15 gallons donor mark. I am not a baseball fan but was very happy for you when the Astro won the tittle a few years ago. Hope they will do so again this year for you.

Rod and I were friends for many years. We met in the late 1980s when we both worked in the Process Engineering Department at Dow. We worked together on numerous projects. He will be missed. May God comfort you and your family.

After Hong Anh and the kids, Mai and I were the closest in the family to Rod. I shared many things in common: our love for process safety, overpressure protection, scouts, movies and baseball.

My earliest memories are working with him on Andre and Alex's scout meetings and their eventual Eagle Scout achievements. He was a gem of an individual; a gentleman in all regards. Later, we talked relief systems and by some quirk of fate, he'd end up doing some contract work on one of my projects! As some of my colleagues came from Missouri, I talked about towns there and he gave me context on the history of the state.

I gave him many recommendations for home repair contractors and he'd similarly give me his input. He loved process engineering so we had a lot to talk about. We both also loved baseball and the 'Stros. He joined me to some games at MM. I knew of his early love for the Cards' as well. I remember excitedly calling him from Chicago after we beat LA for our WST in 2017. He was like me, just savoring the moment.

I will remember visiting him in LJ and spending time catching up. We went to eat in Dallas only a few weeks ago so I remember how much weight he'd lost, but he was proud of himself.

I will miss him dearly but know he's in a good place, smiling in the distinguished manner he always did!

I knew Rod as family, as a colleague, and as a friend. We worked many years at Dow direct, and as contract. Rod and I would car-pool to Houston while working for the same contractor company. We specialized in the same chemical engineering field of pressure protection, so had a lot to discuss.

I cannot recount one unpleasant experience with Rod after being in his company for two decades! He was a gentle soul who left us too early. I will miss him very much and know my sister and nephews are heartbroken. Ronnie loved my toffee and I always would send him a package for Christmas, which I will continue to do as we keep Rod's memory alive.

Rod was a good friend. I worked with him on his last project at Dow before he retired and then twice had the privilege of sharing an office with him while we were both working contract. I learned a lot from Rod about pressure relief and we had many great discussions about baseball. Our sons were in the same scout troop, which Rod had invited us to visit. Rod loved the Astros, but he would also tell me about going to Cardinals games as a boy. We often talked about game 6 of the 1986 NLCS, which Rod and Ronnie attended.

Being a caring person, Rod always ready to help others in needs. He had donated more than 14 gallons of blood to the blood banks all these years. I really regret that he was a bit short of getting a special cup for donors with15 gallons which was his intention.

My condolences to Rod's family and friends during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of working with him in the process safety group for over 10 years. He had a passion for over pressure protection and was a team player. His impact on the organization and the people he worked with will always remain.

Rod and Anh and their family have been in my prayers since I saw the sad news in the paper. As Rod's coworker for many years, I saw how caring he was and how proud he was of his family. His eyes always lit up when he talked about Anh or the boys. He will be missed.

I got to know Rod through project work at Dow in 1997. He was always very kind to me in making sure that I did not get overwhelmed with work. Later on when I moved to Freeport, we got to rejuvenate our friendship and I will miss him personally and dearly.
